"The Leatherneck magazine has asked the Foundation to produce an article on the Operation Deckhouse series of operations along the South Vietnamese coast. There has been little written and even less published about this important series of ship-to-shore operations that involved tanks in multiple and significant roles. Please contact Ray Stewart if you have any information, experience, and/or stories - first hand or "sea" or both - that you can contribute to this most important project.

With the information provided, I can see that over the years in researching articles about the Vietnam War, the Foundation often using this resource. The "catch" is that one must be a member of the MCA i.e., subscribe to The Leatherneck and/or the Gazette. Both of these are great publications that will keep you up-to-date about what's going on in the Corps as well as providing stories of our past.

For example, I've collaborated with Jim Coan (author of Con Thien: The Hill of Angels) on an article in the Leatherneck, written a number of book reviews, and also wrote Marine Tanks in the Battle for Hue City in the Feb. 2008 issue of Leatherneck's celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the TET Offensive. They also post reunions dates, "mail call", and "searching for" requests. I'm confident that you will not regret signing up for either (or both) of the Corps' professional magazines.

Gentlemen - In an attempt to research previous Commandant of the Marine Corps Birthday Messages, I contacted our Foundation friend at the Leatherneck Magazine. Its editor/publisher, Col Walt Ford, USMC (Ret.) replied, in part, with the following:

Semper Fidelis,

Ray Stewart
