This is a "very
substantial" die cast (metal) model, especially when compared to
many of the other models that Corgi Classics has made in the past.
This is definitely NOT a toy but rather a true collectors
item.
To quote the
Corgi Classics Marketing Director: The Marine M48A3 is a
precision-engineered vehicle commemorating the men and the vehicle
used in the Vietnam War. Each die cast M48A3 has been meticulously
researched to ensure the highest degree of authenticity. This is one
of the most accurate military models ever made. Each piece contains
a numbered, limited edition certificate and a booklet with the
specifications and a story of the Marine tanker who operated it
during War. The story relates the experiences of the "Unsung
Heroes," and offer the collector and the veteran a glimpse and a
reminder of what life was like in
Vietnam.
They are
beautifully detailed. Speaking of "details". This will be the first
model that Corgi has ever made that is not "parade ground ready."
That is, the tank will appear as if it came right off a Rough Rider
(convoy escort duty) on Highway 9 between The Rock Pile and Khe Sahn.
In Marine tanker vernacular...There are "40 Mike-Mike" cans attached
to the gypsy rack, Jerry cans on the rear fenders and spare track
block around the turret. The name on the gun tube is "Eve of
Destruction" and it is ready to bust caps with the NVA.
